On Saturday, February 6, 2021 we will host the 3rd Annual Powerful Learners Conference as a virtual event, focused on how we can reenergize, reconnect and refresh as educators to keep students feeling safe and supported in this most unusual time. Together, we will build capacity in our schools and community spaces for honoring the unique needs and gifts of our students, setting the stage for them to thrive and break cycles of structural inequity.

Using Narrative to Build SEL Skills in Your Classroom

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Unfortunately, there is no available recording for this session.

This session is designed for educators of all subject areas who are interested in infusing their curriculum with narrative as a means of building and reinforcing empathy and agency. In this session, participants will learn about the power of narrative to connect students to each other, the content, and their communities. In the first half of the presentation the presenters will share their experiences using narrative texts. In the second half of the presentation, participants will move to breakout rooms to share their ideas, experiences, and strategies for implementing narrative text and addressing potential challenges with narrative texts. Participants will leave the session with access to discussion protocols, question frames, and a shared understanding of empathy and agency.

Though this session is designed with the developing teacher in mind, any teacher who would like to explore incorporating narratives into their curriculum as a way to facilitate the development of SEL skills in their students is welcome.

This will be a hands-on, interactive workshop. Laptops are recommended for full participation.
