On Saturday, February 6, 2021 we will host the 3rd Annual Powerful Learners Conference as a virtual event, focused on how we can reenergize, reconnect and refresh as educators to keep students feeling safe and supported in this most unusual time. Together, we will build capacity in our schools and community spaces for honoring the unique needs and gifts of our students, setting the stage for them to thrive and break cycles of structural inequity.

Journey Towards Coaching for Equity

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

How might instructional coaching interrupt educational inequities and create a learning culture where every student thrives? We describe equity broadly and through the lens of inclusion where every student receives what they need to develop their full academic potential and achieve academic success. Coaching begins with understanding our own biases and beliefs and ultimately shows up in strong coaching relationships that support the development of teachers' understanding of their own identity markers, implicit biases and privileges, and how these play out in the classroom and impact students. We will draw upon the work of Elena Aguilar's Transformational Coaching framework and focus on 2-3 high leverage coaching practices. The journey begins with ourselves and continues as we refine our coaching conversations and skills. Through sharing of experiences, role play and dialogue participants will explore a coaching for equity framework, strategies for building relational trust and key tools for initiating conversations around equity. Throughout presenters will model strategies that support coaching for equity.
Participants will be able to:
Map a personal journey towards coaching for equity.
Understand the why of coaching for equity.
Expand their skill set for keeping equity at the center of coaching.
Connect and strategize with others.
