On Saturday, February 6, 2021 we will host the 3rd Annual Powerful Learners Conference as a virtual event, focused on how we can reenergize, reconnect and refresh as educators to keep students feeling safe and supported in this most unusual time. Together, we will build capacity in our schools and community spaces for honoring the unique needs and gifts of our students, setting the stage for them to thrive and break cycles of structural inequity.

Connection, Curiosity and Collaboration Through the Practice of Public Learning

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In this session, Lead by Learning, a non-profit organization with the Mills School of Education that supports educator and leader learning in schools, will introduce one of our key practices: Public Learning. Public Learning is a practice that shifts the way educators learn together by centering the conversation not on “what I have done” but “what I am uncertain about....” The practice of Public Learning is about making meaning together alongside colleagues. This looks like a colleague sharing an honest dilemma they are grappling with and listeners not only reflecting on what they heard but supporting the learner to move forward in their thinking through questions and wonderings. This equity strategy is about centering what is best for students, specifically the students right in front of us at that moment in rich conversation with colleagues.

Audience members will be invited to learn about the practice through active participation by engaging in a Public Learning conversation themselves using our supported protocol. It is our goal that attendees leave the session reenergized to bring this form of collaboration and learning back to their sites and collaborative spaces. Additionally, participants will receive a downloadable chapter from our playbook which supports bringing Public Learning to their contexts.
