On Saturday, February 6, 2021 we will host the 3rd Annual Powerful Learners Conference as a virtual event, focused on how we can reenergize, reconnect and refresh as educators to keep students feeling safe and supported in this most unusual time. Together, we will build capacity in our schools and community spaces for honoring the unique needs and gifts of our students, setting the stage for them to thrive and break cycles of structural inequity.

Malia is a proud Oakland native and is a product of the Oakland Unified School District. Malia was a participant and teacher leader in the Lead by Learning’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Inquiry Group for six years, where she collaborated with her peers to examine the interrelationship and interdependence of SEL and academics while also refining one’s teaching based on those understandings. Now, as a Program Associate with Lead by Learning, Malia facilitates collaborative inquiry for teachers and leaders throughout the Bay Area. Malia received her B.A. from Occidental College and her teaching credential and Masters degree at U.C. Berkeley.
